People generally think that plants should be outdoor, and they require a lot of attention and heavy maintenance, No not really there are some plants which are meant for the indoors. Many have a question why plants indoors?
Adding plants indoor is important as they have many benefits like
- Plants reduce stress, anxiety.
- One famous NASA experiment shows that plants effectively purify the air and remove the toxins like benzene and formaldehyde.
- Plants use the trapped carbon dioxide in the house and release oxygen (photosynthesis).
- Plants absorb carbon monoxide, this is odorless and colorless gas dangerous when inhaled in overdoses. this gas is often produced from gas stoves, ovens, water heaters, fire places etc
- Plants acts as natural humidifiers, especially during the drier months.
- Plants add warmth and ambiance to decor
HERE ARE THE LOW MAINTENANCE PLANTS
- Air Plant: They are epiphytes, meaning they can grow without soil making them one of the easiest plant to grow. Just mist these plants once in 15 days to keep them healthy and thriving. They are the coolest plants for decorating smaller spaces.
- Snake plant: Its an easy to grow plant and can tolerate low light conditions. They can survive without water upto 2 weeks. They can efficiently remove toxins like formaldehyde, xylene and toluene and purifies indoor air.
- Spider Plant: They are easy to grow and adoptable plants. They grow in bright indirect light, during summer they produce white flowers and baby plants called pups which can be easily propagated. The NASA test showed that spider plant removed around 90% of potentially cancer causing chemical formaldehyde from air. This plant also purifies Benzene and trichloroethylene.
- Philodendron: Beautiful tropical plant with heart shaped leaves and sometimes variegations on them. They do well in bright indirect light, especially does well in west and southwest window sill. Do not over water these plants because the roots may rot. These plants are poisonous to pets and humans when ingested.
- Bromeliads: These are beautiful foliage plants. They have colorful and long lasting inflorescence. They grow well in medium light. They can be grown in well drained soil.
- Umbrella tree: Also known as Hawaiian schefflera They are fast growing plants. They grow well in bright indirect light. Water only when the top soil is dry. This plant is poisonous to pets.

- Pothos: It is a great addition to the homes as they can tolerate low light to moderate lighting conditions. Pothos are one of the easy house plant, as they can be easily propagated both in water and soil. They are efficient in removing indoor air toxins. Poisonous to cats and dogs when ingested.
- English ivy: One of the beautiful house plant. Ivy prefers dry soil, water only if the top soil is dry to touch. Its also a very good air purifier.
