ZERO WASTE SWAPS
Wishing you all a very happy new year
Lets start this year with positivity and lets try hard to reduce our carbon footprint to save our mother earth. Preserve it for the future generation. Plastic plays predominant role in polluting our earth, be it air, water and soil. The main problem with plastic is, it doesn't DECOMPOSE and brakes down into micro plastics and entering into our food chain. Many animals, birds, marine animals are mistaken these plastic pieces as food and consuming them.
**Everyday approximately 8 million pieces of plastic pollution find their way into oceans.
Here i come up with 5 swaps where you can actually ditch the plastic (single use) and letting them not to end up in the landfill. These swaps not only limits use of single use plastics but also saves money.
- Reusable water bottle:Globally more than a million plastic bottles are sold every minute. In the USA, only 30% of these are recycled and the rest end up in the landfills and oceans. Plastic bottles and caps are the third and fourth most collected plastic trash in oceans.Instead of buying packaged water bottles invest in good water filters and reusable water bottles. Always carry your water bottles and fill it whenever needed.
- Reusable Straws: These plastic straws doesn't decompose and remain in the landfill for hundreds of years and further breakdown into smaller particles and pollute our soil and water. Right now in the market different reusable straws are available like bamboo straws, metal straws etc. always carry these straws.
- Reusable produce bags: Always buy naked fruits and vegetables and carry them in these reusable produce bags. Most of these bags can be washed and stored.
- Bamboo Toothbrush: On an average a billion tooth brushes are thrown away in USA. All theses ends up in the landfill. Ditch these brushes with bamboo toothbrushes which can be decomposed after using them.
- Tote bags: Replace all your plastic bags while buying groceries or clothes with reusable tote bags. Some stores are even giving discount if we carry our own produce bags.
