To me sustainable living is so important because, i want to give my future generation clean air, water and food.
Sustainable living tips: Here are few tips
- Off lights when not required or when leaving a room. Reduce household energy use. As we all know coal is being burnt for electricity generation, hence by reducing household energy use, we can reduce our bit of carbon dioxide production.
- During the day open the blinds of your windows and some times even open your patio doors and use maximum natural light as possible.
- Replace your regular light bulb with LED bulbs as they consume lesser electricity and also last longer.
- Do not run water while brushing teeth and washing utensils.
- While using washing machine always use cold water cycle, this helps in improving the clothes life and also reduces the cost of heating the water.
- Instead of using paper towels in the kitchen use cloth napkins. Up cycle your old clothes and make your own kitchen towels.
- Try purchasing recycled toilet paper.
- Instead of buying cleaners from the stores, we can make one at home by using baking soda, vinegar and dish soap.
- Try to become a minimalist and invest in better quality items.
- Do not buy bottled water.
- Always carry water bottle while going out and refill it whenever required.
- Say no to single use plastic straws and buy reusable straws like steel straws, bamboo straws etc. As plastic straws have negative impact on our oceans and marine life.
- Reuse used glass jars and bottles. Wash and wipe them clean, n use them to store your produce.
- Do not buy fruits and vegetables wrapped in plastic. Always buy naked fruits and vegetables as much as possible.
- Carry your produce bag and say no to plastic carry bags at the grocery stores.
- Try to buy milk in glass bottles as you can return them back to the store.
- Stop using plastic tooth brush and shift to bamboo tooth brush for brushing teeth.
- Give your clothes second life by donating them at thrift stores or by selling them.
- Try to buy second hand clothes, toys and household decor items.
- Go meatless atleast one day in a week.
- Always buy produce in bulk like rice, oats,lentils,pasta etc. Only the items which you use on a regular basis.
- Start composting your kitchen waste (avoiding meat and dairy).
